Peter B. Jones is Professor of Psychiatry and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cambridge where he also holds an honorary Consultant Psychiatrist position. He was previously Professor of Psychiatry & Community Mental Health in Nottingham, and Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry.
Peter studied neurobiology and medicine in London and, after some time in internal medicine, trained in psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital and Institute of Psychiatry. His first job was with Robin Murray from whom he caught an interest in the causes of psychosis, later studying epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
His clinical work is in general psychiatry practice, particularly for people with first episode psychosis and, together with Ed Bullmore, he directs the Cambridge Early Intervention Service, CAMEO (www.cameo.nhs.uk). His epidemiological research includes the early life causes of adult mental illness with collaborations in Finland, mental health links across the lifecourse, and the interface between social and biological understanding of mental health and illness.
